My Story

Animals have been a constant presence in my life from the very beginning. I have grown up with dogs and cats (and, briefly, a bearded dragon called Alan!). For over ten years, I have also volunteered for the Cinnamon Trust. This is a charity which matches volunteers to walk the dogs of those who are elderly or disabled, and can no longer walk their dogs themselves. I have loved every moment of doing this, and have met some wonderful people. I have also been lucky enough to spend some time studying animals in Africa, and work at a seal sanctuary in Ireland! These remain some of the most interesting and enjoyable experiences of my life.

However, despite this, I had never considered working with animals as a 'career'.

That all changed quite recently. In 2024, I became very unwell with anxiety and depression. I realised I was not happy in my work, and that it was not a good fit for me. I therefore decided to make a big change in my life. I thought about what had always made me happiest and most fulfilled. Simply put, it was working with animals, and being in the outdoors and fresh air. Furthermore, I have never enjoyed driving, and wanted if possible to avoid being reliant on a car for my work.

From this realisation, everything else followed. From a pencil drawing on a sketch pad, I found a logo, and from that logo, a website. Working for myself is something I had never done before, and it was, and remains, a steep learning curve. I have made a fair few mistakes along the way (and will probably make more!).

However, without a doubt, becoming a dog walker is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I look forward to my work each and every day (even when it's raining). I've met some wonderful dogs, and some wonderful people. And I still can't quite believe how lucky I am that this is my job!

I currently live in Bishopstoke with my wife, Harriet, and our ginger cat, Basil.
